Why is there a punishment for prisoners of war. In their culture you are expected to bring back prisoners and it is considered weak to kill someone on the battlefield. It’s better to die as a Sacrifice then on the battlefield

The aztecs really prioritized societal harmony. These punishments (besides pow war crimes..) reflects that they wanted order in their society. They also had a mandatory military training for all males similar to the Spartans' Agoge. Quite fascinating culture. It wouldnhave great to see their civilization mature without outside intervention as it did.
